Community Cooking at Caritas
On 22 May 2025, we from Group Taxes spent a morning at Caritas together with the IFRS Reporting & Accounting Competence Centre team to help out with the Community Cooking event.
Originally planned as a joint team activity, we were particularly motivated and inspired by the social aspect. It's a great feeling to realise that just a few hours of joint work can directly benefit many people in need.
According to the Caritas employees who accompanied us through the morning, the lunch prepared is normally enough for up to 120 people. The organisation was excellent: all the ingredients were purchased and provided in advance by Caritas with the help of a budget provided by Erste Group.
On site, we were divided into smaller groups and deployed at various kitchen stations. With the help of written instructions and the support of the Caritas team, we prepared a complete menu together in a short space of time:
- Mung bean salad with roasted walnuts
- Lentil and vegetable curry with basmati rice (depending on seasonal vegetable availability)
- Apple strudel
After preparation, the main course and dessert were transferred to heated containers and transported to a nearby day centre (approx. 10 minutes away), where the food is served. In the meantime, we did the washing up and tidied up. Finally, we were able to enjoy the freshly prepared food together in the kitchen and round off the morning in a cosy atmosphere.
It was a very enriching experience that not only strengthened our teamwork and communication skills, but also gave us a valuable insight into the day-to-day work of Caritas.
Hint: Caritas regularly publishes current dates on the ‘Community Cooking’ Facebook page, where private individuals can also get involved at any time
